Hey there, Mama! Are you wondering how to prepare for a newborn photo session? I am beyond thrilled that you're considering me to capture your family's memories. Congratulations on your little bundle of joy! Welcoming a newborn into your family is such a special time, and capturing those fleeting moments is something you'll cherish forever. As a mom to a busy toddler, I understand the importance of preserving these big memories, and as a photographer, I'm here to guide you through the process. So, let's dive into the essential steps to help you prepare for a newborn session with Sarah Finicle Photography!

1. BOOK YOUR DATE AHEAD OF TIME

To ensure you secure a spot in my calendar, it's best to schedule your session months before your baby arrives. Reach out to me a few months before your due date so we can find the perfect time slot. I only take a limited number of clients each month, and my schedule tends to fill up quickly. By booking early, we can plan the session within the first two weeks after birth, when newborns are sleepier and more cooperative for those adorable photos. Don't worry if your due date changes slightly – we can be flexible and adjust accordingly.

2. KEEP BABY WELL FED

Newborns have a knack for being hungry every one to two hours. To ensure your baby is calm and content during the session, it's imperative to feed them a full meal before we start! Screaming babies is NOT what any of us prefer. Lol. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to give your little one a quick feed or a power snack (yes, babies can have power snacks too!). This will save time and allow us to begin capturing those precious moments right away. And if your baby happens to get fussy during the session, no worries! We can always take a break and give them another feed. It's all part of the process!

3. GATHER ALL BABY SUPPLIES BEFOREHAND

As a prepared mama, it's always a good idea to have everything you need within arm's reach. Keep a stash of extra diapers, wipes, and burp cloths in an easily accessible spot. You never know when those unexpected messes might happen! It's also wise to have a spare change of clothes for both you and your baby, just in case. And don't forget to keep your baby's favorite soothing items, like pacifiers or soft toys, nearby. These little comforts can make a big difference in keeping your little one calm and happy during the session.

4. RELAX AND ENJOY THE PROCESS

I totally get it – it's completely natural to feel a bit anxious during your baby's first photoshoot. No worries! I'm here to put your mind at ease. No matter how much babies cry or fuss during a session, I have a knack for capturing beautiful and sweet images of them and their families. It's my job to make your session as stress-free as possible and to make you, Mama, feel extra special. From the moment you book with me, I'll make sure you feel pampered and loved. I even have an in-house, professional hair and makeup artist and a wardrobe of stunning dresses for you to choose from. Plus, we'll have the opportunity to create a gorgeous heirloom, luxury album that you'll treasure forever.

Consider creating an heirloom album to preserve your baby's images from the session, allowing you to cherish these memories for life. An heirloom album is a tangible and timeless way to showcase the love and joy of your growing family. Each page will tell a story, capturing the essence of your baby's first days in this world. It's a beautiful keepsake that can be passed down through generations, a cherished family heirloom that will evoke emotions and memories for years to come.
